Antoinette (Toni) Taylor, PhD

Dr. Antoinette (Toni) Taylor is a prominent physicist and Laboratory Associate Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), where she previously served as the Associate Laboratory Director for Physical Sciences, overseeing research and development for approximately 1,000 scientists across physics, materials science, and accelerator technologies. A pioneer in ultrafast optics, electromagnetic metamaterials, and terahertz (THz) science, her research focuses on dynamic processes in quantum materials and bridging the "terahertz gap." Her teams pioneered planar THz metamaterials to engineer artificial structures with actively tunable electrical and optical properties, delivering foundational insights into condensed-matter physics and superconductors. Dr. Taylor launched her research career at Bell Laboratories before transitioning to LANL in 1986, having previously served as Director of the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). She earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Stanford University, completing her doctoral work under Nobel Laureate Arthur Leonard Schawlow, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Cornell University. An extensively published scientist with over 370 peer-reviewed articles, she is an elected Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), Optica, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
